Please please watch the clip posted below. It does a better job expressing the essence of the documentary than I can. If you have some time this weekend, please consider watching the entire documentary. Its on Youtube and it’s free of charge.

.

The man in the clip is not some random grandpa chosen for his interesting face but Jose Mujica, ex-president of Uruguay. His country remembers his leadership and his wisdom.  A 10 minute full version of this talk here : link

1. This documentary is raw truth about the world. Its easy to be stuck in your own little world and prejudices when you have travelled so little and know so few people. Problems like bad shoes, decluttering the right way, being pro wolf, addiction to good food, not exercising enough, products packaged in plastic bottles, my iphone app not working well enough, the next travel agenda, building a perfect wardrobe, … that I write about are quite small in the grand scheme of things.

.

2. I talk about my distaste for fast fashion on the blog. Most of the people I know in real life tell me “they made the choice to take up employment / 58$ a month is enough for them / Its okay for a child to drop out of school to earn extra money for the poor family.” Have you ever met “them”? In volume 1, you come face to face with a garment worker who questions our right to take advantage of his situation. I dare you to go buy that 5$ tshirt after watching this video or to answer his question.

.

3. This documentary is eye opening for us stuck in our little worlds. We come face to face with women from all over the globe who talk about their abuse and how they gathered strength to escape their dragons. We come face to face with folks who had gender change, ones who escaped from sex trade, a man who developed a handicap, a human who faced defeat and bounced back,…. We come face to face with people talking about what make them happy : the rain, a full meal, stargazing after a hard day at work, birth of their child, falling in love, their children, loving your partner every day, not worrying about money all the time, education,….. the grand scheme of things.

4. Director Yann Arthus-Bertrand has travelled for years and gathered this footage. His aerial footage is exceptionally breathtaking. And published his movie on Youtube. Do you find humans like him anymore in a world busy acquiring McMansions, luxury cars and fancy toys ? I am trying to collect more good influencers like him. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

5. I believe the makers get paid by Youtube based on the subscriber count, views, favourites, likes, shares, etc. Please do consider showing the makers some support. They did infact give us some much expecting nothing in return.

Watch the documentary : Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3
