I call this the Print edition. I wear solid colors and have always strongly disliked print/texture on me. They seem to take over and scream out loud – on my frame. And add visual clutter to the surroundings. I do own a few pieces … a blue dress with embroidery , a plaid scarf ,  a few low contrast striped long sleeve tshirts … But the general tendency has been towards solid colors and monochromatic clothing with dainty accessories.  This season, I actively went looking for specific things. To add some print to my wardrobe in the form of dots and stripes. Here is my round up.

pinstripeshorts

.

THE STRIPE. The biggest cliche that came out of the wannabe French look are the stipe tops. “There comes the zebras !”, is the term that comes to my mind. Everyone wears them now ! They are everywhere but I find it really really hard to find ones that I like.  The thicker stripes look too sailor/jail bird. I understand that the sailors needed visibility but I don’t like loud patterns or need to be seen from far. The high contrast colors – not for me. The droopy shoulders – nobody looks flattering in them unless extremely petite and skinny. Who wants a rounded sagging shoulder ? I don’t get it. I can easily find faults with striped tops and walk away.  In lieu of no strips meeting my requirements, I moved on to finding me some pinstripe. And found these pinstriped high waisted linen shorts. This was a sort of love at first sight plus impulse purchase.

polkadotbluedress

POLKA DOTs. APC clothing is made different than anything else I own. I forgot how cotton could be non jersey/poplin but a tough fabric. They are very understated and made like armor. It covers up and envelopes the body without being clingy. Finding the right polka dots has been hard. Too many dots ( busy pattern ), too big dots ( visible from afar ) and contrasting colors ( not my style ) – my constraints. This one checked all of my lists – navy dress, shift dress, tunic style, tiny white dots and good quality. The dress looked like the 80s old lady on me, the way it was designed. I got a tailor to adjust the length on me. And I think it’s perfect.

pinklaceflats

.

SOME LACE. An unexpected find were these pink flats with lace on top. I believe this is the perfect nude for my skin tone. I have been toying with the idea of pink flats. Was thinking of purchasing actual ballet flats and getting a cobbler to put a sole on them. These flats cured the craving.  I do not know how to clean and condition them. I may have to take them to my cobbler to get them cleaned – an expensive hassle. I envision all black/all navy/all grey outfits with nude lace loafers. Made by Valentino. I know more money doesn’t always equate to quality. But the quality from what I can observe – is the best I have found so far. They are extremely sturdy and well made.

All this talk of closet completion and the perfect closet … I think I am there. I really do ! Although I am always looking for that perfect red dress. A miu miu dress came close but its fabrication was 100% polyester. I was shocked to see something that expensive and from the reputed brand being all polyester (for the price). I may have to wait till oxblood is the color of the season next time around and then take my pick. This winter,  I am researching denim ( 100% cotton ) and wool ! It’s a new territory and lot to learn.
